September 2024 Childhood Cancer Awareness Community Night
To recognize Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September), all of our families came together to show their camaraderie in their support of children who are battling cancer, who are survivors, or have passed away in the wake of this horrific disease.
Gold is the color of the childhood cancer ribbon, and gold was evident throughout the evening at our September 15th Community Night. Our over arching theme for the evening was; “Ending Childhood Cancer”. Each attendee received a beautiful silver-plated gold ribbon to wear on their lapel, and our centerpieces illuminated “GOLD throughout the room. The evening welcomed over 150 attendees, along with 6 “first time” attending families.
Matt and Heidi Brown, one of our CCC families, served our dinner. Matt is a remarkable chef! They own and operate Estelle’s Eatery and Bar in Harmony, MN. Thank you Matt and Heidi for serving such a delicious dinner which consisted of a Nacho & Taco Bar will all of the fixings!
We would also like to thank Donna Richardson and the West Albany Church for providing blankets and quilts for our families. They were beautiful and our families loved looking through them to choose their favorite one.
And in recognition of this special month, Ziggy’s Art Bus provided a Master Art Kit for each of our children. They were all extremely excited to receive this fun project!
After dinner our families were invited to participate in Sharing Time. CCC offers two breakout sessions; one for our families still battling their child’s cancer, and the other for our bereaved families. This month our bereaved families received a bouquet of yellow roses in memory of their precious child. We’d also like to thank Kerry Goihl for facilitating our bereaved breakout session. Kerry a bereaved mom herself, and has gone on to get her Master’s Degree and is now a Licensed Graduate Social Worker with an emphasis on grief counseling . We are grateful to Kerry for providing a safe space for parents to share their grief journeys.
